Math Facts Dice Game

What You Need:

  • Four dice, standard size
  • Paper, one sheet per player
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Four markers (plastic chips, beans, pennies, etc.)
  • Calculators, one per player

What You Do:

  1. Have each player make his own game board. Using a ruler, create a grid that’s 10 squares x 10 squares. Then write in numbers 1 - 100 on the grid, without ever putting two consecutive numbers next to one another.
  2. Ask one player at a time to roll all of the dice. Have them combine the numbers to create a number on their game board. They can use addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to create their number. (For example, if the numbers 4, 4, 3 and 6 are rolled, they can choose to create (4 x 4) + (6 + 3) = 25, then place their marker on the "25" space.
  3. Each player should take a turn and then pass the dice to the next player.
  4. Players should double check their work with the calculator. The objective is to focus on skill and creativity over computation.
  5. Whoever is the first to get four markers in a row, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally wins!

Variation: To mix it up, try having the players share the same game board and try to block one another. Or, you could make the game a little more complex by using 5 dice.
