Introduction

Share the print or video advertisement you have selected.
Ask the students to reflect on what stands out. What was the advertiser trying to accomplish? What was convincing about the advertisement? How did the advertisement hook the viewer?
Tell the students that just as companies want to “hook” consumers with advertisements, writers want to engage their readers with a strong hook and ending.
