Patterns in Nature

What You Need:

 

What You Do:

  1. Show your child images of nature.
  2. Ask, "What do you notice? Do you see any similar patterns?"
  3. Explain to them that there are patterns throughout nature. Share some examples of things in nature that may have patterns, such as flowers or leaves.
  4. Think about the patterns that they may have noticed in nature. For example, consider the spirals on a snail's shell, or the patterns on the outside of a pineapple.
  5. Explain to your child that they will be going on a scavenger hunt to find patterns in nature.
  6. Tell them to use mindful seeing, which means noticing things in the present moment with kindness and curiosity, to discover all the patterns in nature.
  7. Review the Nature Scavenger Hunt worksheet with them, and work together to look for interesting patterns in nature.
  8. As you look for these patterns, share with each other what you notice and how you appreciate the amazing miracle that is nature.
