Inside a Mosque

What You Need:

  • Black construction paper
  • Colorful tissue paper
  • Pencil
  • Craft knife
  • Cutting mat
  • Craft glue

What You Do:

  1. Take a look at images of stained glass in mosques together for some inspiration. Ask your kid if he can name some of the shapes he sees in the windows, like triangles and diamonds.
  2. Encourage him to design his own stained glass drawing using a pencil on black paper. He can add a crescent moon if he'd like to symbolize the start of Ramadan or the flag of Islam.
  3. Take over duties and cut out the stained glass windows with a craft knife on a cutting board. Make sure there is enough space between the windows and from the edges of the paper.
  4. Cut rectangles of paper tissue in different colors and glue them to the back of the construction paper over the windows.
  5. Place the paper in front of a window and marvel as the sun streams through and creates a brilliant stained glass effect!
