EL adjustments
Introduction
(2 minutes)
Review the symbols used for comparing numbers ( >, <, = ) with the class.
Explain to your students, "Today we are going to compare whole numbers using these symbols." Remind students that when we compare numbers we are looking at the difference in value between two (or more) numbers.
Beginning
Give students the definition of the comparing symbols (<, >, =) in their home language (L1) and English (L2). Create a poster or anchor chart with the definition and examples and make sure the chart is visible for the duration of the lesson.
Intermediate
Have students share the the definition of each symbol with a partner. Provide this sentence frame for support: "The symbol ________ means..."
