Tell students that the focus of this lesson is working with numbers up to 120. Explain that the class will be practicing strategies to count and solve word problems up to 120.
Hand each student a pencil and clipboard.
Lead students to a large area, outside or inside, where they have space to complete 120 steps.
Gather students around you to give them instructions for their first activity.
Beginning
Count chorally from 1-120 as you point to the numbers on a number line or hundreds chart. Add additional rows to your hundreds chart so that the number sequence extends to 120.
Ask students to restate the learning objective in their home language (L1).
Intermediate
Ask students to count from 1-120 with a partner, each taking a turn to say the next number. Tell them to use quiet voices, count slowly, and follow along on the number line or hundreds chart as they count.
Review names for numbers 100-120 which may not be as familiar to students.
